TightStrap®

TightStrap is a unique device used to tension (tighten) of shear wall flat strap x-bracing in the field. It is important that the flat straps are as tight as possible prior to fastening to achieve optimal system performance. The pre-tensioning of of the shear wall flat strap provides a means to ensure that waviness or bowing of the shear wall are removed and it will perform as designed.
Features
  • Removes “waviness” or “bowing” prior to fastening
  • Provides a means to ensure the shear wall will perform as designed
  • Ensures flat straps are as tight as possible when installed to achieve optimal system performance
  • Fastens to standard track at the corners of the shear wall to provide a base for the tensioning process
Order Information

TightStrap is sold separately from the StiffWall Shear Wall System and Flat Strap. It is packaged one (1) piece per box and is designated TightStrap.

Catalogs

Installation Instructions

TightStrap is designed to be used in both TSN’s StiffWall® X-Braced Shear Wall and generic flat strap shear walls.

The StiffWall Strap Track contains pre-drilled guide holes for quick attachment of TightStrap’s “Z” fittings (See Installation Step 2). If the guide holes are not available in generic flat strap shear wall assemblies, use a #12 screw to create holes for the “Z” fittings.

It is preferable to tighten the flat straps after applyiing some vertical load (own weight) on top of the shear wall panel.
