The Steel Network, Inc.

Press Release

The Steel Network, Inc. receives updated evaluation reports from ICC-ES
for VertiClip
®, DriftClip® and DriftTrak®

Durham, North Carolina – June 1, 2011 - The Steel Network, Inc. (TSN) is a manufacturer of light gauge (cold-formed) steel studs and connectors based in Durham, North Carolina, USA. TSN provides solutions for all standard light steel framing applications, including load-bearing mid-rise construction systems, curtain wall systems, rigid connectors, vertical deflection connectors, lateral drift connectors, and anchorage connectors.

TSN has received an updated evaluation report (ESR#1903) for VertiClip® (SL, SLB, SLS, SLT, and SLD) from ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES), bringing them into compliance with both 2009 and 2006 International Building Code (IBC).  This expanded evaluation scope provides evidence that the curtain wall stud connectors continue to meet code requirements. Building officials, architects, contractors, specifiers, designers and others utilize the ICC-ES Evaluation Reports to provide a basis for using or approving VertiClip® in construction projects following the 2009 and 2006 IBC.

TSN has also received an updated evaluation report (ESR# 2049) from ICC-ES certifying that their lateral drift product line including, DriftClip® (DSLB, DSLS, and DSL) and DriftTrak® (DTSLB and DTSL) are in compliance with 2009 and 2006 IBC.

ICC-ES President Mark Johnson explains why ICC-ES Evaluation Reports are so important. “TSN can reference the evaluation reports to ensure building officials and the building industry that their products meet I-Code requirements,” Johnson said. “Building departments have a long history of using evaluation reports, and ICC-ES operates as a technical resource for the building department.  Final approval of building products is always in the hands of the local regulatory agency.”

ICC-ES thoroughly examined The Steel Network’s product information, test reports, calculations, quality control methods and other factors to ensure the product is code compliant. In response to this update, TSN’s CEO, Edward di Girolamo, P.E. stated, “It is our mission to produce and deliver the finest products in the light steel framing industry. These reports are one component of our process in achieving this mission which includes evaluation of construction challenges, advanced testing, numerical analysis, and product development.”

ICC-ES is the United States’ leading source of technical information on building products and building technology for code compliance. A nonprofit, public-benefit corporation, ICC-ES performs technical evaluations of building products, components, methods and materials. The evaluation process culminates with the issuance of reports on compliance with the major U.S. building codes, which are available at www.icc-es.org.

ICC-ES is a subsidiary of the International Code Council, a membership association dedicated to building safety and fire prevention that develops the codes used to construct residential and commercial buildings, including homes and schools. Most U.S. cities, counties and states that adopt codes choose the International Codes developed by the International Code Council.

Substantial effort has been made by the industry to standardize construction practices to ensure the positive connections of light steel framing components. Toward this end, TSN products have undergone extensive field and laboratory testing to achieve complete solutions for both designers and installers. All TSN products undergo testing in accordance with ICC-ES AC261.  In addition, The Steel Network is the only manufacturer that holds an ICC-ES evaluation report for clip products utilized for vertical deflection and lateral drift applications.
